Any army MOS list depends on which official catalog it comes from, and the two the Army runs don’t agree. On October 17, 2026, goarmy.com showed 148 enlisted jobs, while DoD’s Army COOL database listed 180 enlisted codes. Only 139 codes appear on both, and together they make 189 distinct codes, or 190 with the new 08H.
So the honest answer to “how many” is 143 to 190, depending on what gets counted.
An MOS, or military occupational specialty, is the Army’s job code. Every enlisted code on goarmy.com follows the same pattern: two digits plus a letter, as in 68W.
Below, every code is grouped by its official career management field (CMF), followed by the new, retired, Reserve/Guard-only, bonus, warrant officer and officer codes. Counts as of October 17, 2026, from goarmy.com and Army COOL data.
How Many MOS Does the Army Have?
Between 143 and 190 enlisted codes, depending on whether you count the recruiting site’s job pages, the credentialing database or both. The goarmy.com army jobs list runs on a data feed with 263 job records: 148 enlisted and 115 officer.
Here’s what the data actually shows. Six different totals can be defended, and each one counts something different.
| Count | What it includes | Source |
|---|---|---|
| 143 | goarmy enlisted pages minus 5 enlistment-option codes (11X, 13U, 14U, 19U, 18X) | goarmy.com |
| 148 | All goarmy enlisted job pages (146 of them offered in Active Duty) | goarmy.com |
| 157 | COOL enlisted codes minus the 23 flagged supervisory | Army COOL |
| 180 | All COOL enlisted codes | Army COOL |
| 189 | goarmy and COOL combined, duplicates removed | Both |
| 190 | The combined list plus 08H, which neither catalog shows yet | Both + Army announcement |
Counting all Army MOS codes in both catalogs is where the gap shows. Nine codes exist only on goarmy: the 5 option codes, 2 new codes (14W and 15X), 35W and 14S. Another 41 exist only in COOL: 23 supervisory-flagged senior codes plus 18 others, mostly for sergeants or soldiers already serving.
Popular figures such as “over 140”, “over 150” and “around 190” circulate without a stated method.
How This Count Was Built
The goarmy figures come from the job data feed behind the goarmy.com browse-jobs page, filtered to records marked Enlisted. The COOL figures come from the data the Army COOL MOS index loads, limited to entries coded MOS, with two non-code rows (MANAGER_AR and COMMON_AR) dropped. Both were pulled on October 17, 2026, and matched by code.
Same Code, Different Name
Of the 139 codes on both lists, titles match in 121, differ slightly in 11 and differ substantially in 7. Titles were normalized before the comparison, and “slightly” means a similarity score of 0.75 or higher.
The practical point: if a recruiter or COOL uses a different name, it’s still the same code. The career-field tables below show the substantial differences in the Note column.
Army MOS List by Career Field (as of October 2026)
This US Army MOS list groups every enlisted code under the career management field (CMF) name used in the headings on the Army G-1 site, home of the DA PAM 600-25 NCO Professional Development Guide “Smartbook.” All 28 numbered fields in the data have a heading there, as of October 17, 2026.
But here’s the thing. The official field names often differ from the branch names people search by: CMF 89 is Ammunition (not EOD), 91 is Mechanical Maintenance (not Ordnance) and 92 is Supply and Services (not Quartermaster). Searching by branch name can send a reader to the wrong field, since 89A and 89B sit in Ammunition, not EOD.
The combined list covers 29 two-digit prefixes, and goarmy’s enlisted cards cover 25 of them. The overview below shows every enlisted career field, with codes from both catalogs combined.

Single-Code Career Fields: 00Z, 27, 36, 37, 40, 51, 56, 74
| CMF | Code | Title | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 00 | 00Z | Nominative Command Sergeant Major/Sergeant Major | Senior (COOL supervisory) |

| 74 | 74D | Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) Specialist | Entry-level |
00Z has no CMF heading on G-1, only a “MOS 00Z” label, so no CMF title is published for it. Where Sergeant Major sits among enlisted grades is covered in the Army ranks guide.
G-1 prints the CMF 51 heading as “CMF 51 Branch Acquisition, Logistics, and Technology.” 40D and 51C appear only in COOL, and 40D is covered in the new-codes section.
What Are 11X, 13U, 14U, 19U and 18X?
They’re enlistment-option cards. Not every card on the list of jobs in the Army is a single job: for most of these, the recruit signs for a career field, and the exact MOS is set later.

| Option code | Title on goarmy | What it leads to | Component |
|---|---|---|---|
| 11X | Infantryman Jobs | No assignment rule stated; CMF 11 entry codes on this list are 11B and 11C | Active Duty, Army National Guard |
| 13U | Field Artillery Recruit | 13B, 13F, 13J, 13M or 13R | Active Duty |
| 14U | Air Defense Artillery (ADA) Recruit | 14E, 14G, 14H, 14P or 14T | Active Duty |
| 19U | Armor Crewmember Recruit | 19C, 19D or 19K | Active Duty |
| 18X | Special Forces Candidate | One of four entry-level Special Forces MOS | Active Duty, Army National Guard |
For 13U, 14U and 19U, goarmy says assignment is “based on available Army opportunities and skills assessed at Basic Combat Training.” So a recruit who signs 13U does not pick the final code; it depends on Army needs and on skills assessed at Basic Combat Training.
The 13U and 14U cards were added to goarmy on November 20, 2024, and 19U on February 19, 2025. 18X leads to one of “four entry-level Special Forces” MOS, decided by training, ability and Army needs.
Which MOS Codes Are New in 2026?
Four enlisted codes arrived or took effect in 2026, and none of them is open to every recruit the same way. The list of Army MOS codes keeps changing, and these four are the 2026 additions.
| Code | Title | Effective | Who can hold it |
|---|---|---|---|
| 08H | Army Equestrian | March 3, 2026 | Infantry NCOs, sergeant through sergeant major |
| 14W | Air and Missile Defense (AMD) Systems Repairer | October 1, 2026 | Grades E-3 to E-7 |
| 15X | Tactical Unmanned Aircraft System (TUAS) Specialist | 15W and 15E soldiers recertify by October | 15W and 15E soldiers recertifying into it |
| 40D | Space Operations Specialist | “On track” for October 2026 (army.mil, 2025) | Soldiers already serving, SPC through CSM |
08H Army Equestrian took effect March 3 and replaces additional skill identifier D2, according to AUSA’s January announcement. DVIDS reported the first 08H holders on June 29, 2026, after a 12-week basic course and a 6-week advanced horsemanship course. As of October 17, 2026, 08H is on neither goarmy nor COOL.
14W came through a MILPER message dated April 1, 2026, effective October 1, 2026, for about 300 soldiers, and 14E and 14T remain. The goarmy card was created on September 18, 2026, 13 days before the code took effect. COOL still did not list it 16 days after.
15X replaces 15W and 15E, with soldiers recertifying “by October,” and Task & Purpose reported more than 250 graduates. Its goarmy card has existed since February 13, 2026, yet COOL, 246 days later, still shows only 15W and 15E.
40D is open only to soldiers already serving. In May 2025, army.mil said it was “on track to become official by October 2026,” and on October 14, 2026, Military Times reported more than 600 soldiers selected from about 3,000 applicants. COOL lists 40D; goarmy does not.
Old Army MOS List: Retired and Renamed Codes
Several codes on the old Army MOS list have been merged, renamed or replaced. The table maps each one to its current code, with the effective date and the source.
| Old code | Now | Effective | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| 14S Avenger Crewmember | 14P | October 1, 2016 | army.mil, 2016 |
| 29E Electronic Warfare | 17E (Cyber, CMF 17) | October 1, 2018 | C4ISRNET, 2017 |
| 46Q + 46R | 46S | October 1, 2018 | army.mil, 2018 |
| 25L + 25N + 25Q | 25H | October 2022 (phase II signal convergence) | army.mil, 2023 |
| 35Q | 17C | No confirmed conversion date | army.mil, 2015 |
| 79R | 42T Talent Acquisition | Pilot announced October 2023 | Task & Purpose, 2023 |
| 255A Information Systems Technician (warrant officer) | 255A Data Operations Warrant Officer | October 2023 | DA PAM 611-21 ch. 8A |
In the signal field, the enlisted MOS count went “from 17 to seven,” according to army.mil. COOL today shows exactly 7 codes in CMF 25.
The 14S line, “will become 14P starting October 1,” comes from Capt. Cassandra Steiner in an army.mil unit deactivation story, not from an Army-wide order. The 29E date comes from C4ISRNET, quoting Major General Patricia Frost at TechNet Augusta 2017.
For 35Q, army.mil reported in 2015 that CMF 17 was approved, with 17C coming “once activated.” For 79R, recruiters are set to transform to 42T “over time.”
None of 29E, 46Q, 46R, 25L, 25N, 25Q or 35Q appears in either current catalog. 13D and 13P are no longer listed either.
And it gets more complicated. A retired code doesn’t always vanish from official pages: the 14S Avenger Crewmember card is still live on goarmy, offered for Guard and Reserve only, 10 years after the conversion to 14P.
Which MOS Exist Only in the Reserve or National Guard?
Only 2 goarmy enlisted jobs are Guard/Reserve-only: 12G Quarrying Specialist and 14S Avenger Crewmember. COOL flags more codes for the Reserve Component, and two recruiting and retention codes belong to one component each.
| Components on goarmy | Enlisted jobs |
|---|---|
| Active Duty + Army National Guard + Army Reserve | 105 |
| Active Duty + Army National Guard | 32 |
| Active Duty + Army Reserve | 6 (37F, 68B, 68D, 68L, 68M, 68V) |
| Active Duty only | 3 (13U, 14U, 19U; see Option codes) |
| Army National Guard + Army Reserve | 2 (12G, 14S) |
Source: goarmy.com job data, October 17, 2026.
COOL marks 12G, 12Q and 88U with a Reserve Component flag. But goarmy also offers 12Q and 88U in Active Duty, so the flag in COOL is not the same as Guard-only.
In CMF 79, 79T is “Recruiting and Retention Noncommissioned Officer (Army National Guard of the United States),” and 79V is “Army Reserve Career Counselor.” The same 2024 career plan adds: “There are no authorized SSG positions for MOS 79V.”
Warrant officers have Reserve Component codes too, per DA PAM 611-21 chapter 8A:
- 152B OH-58A/C Scout Pilot (RC)
- 153B UH-1 Pilot (RC)
- 153L UH-72A Pilot (RC ONLY)
Which Army Jobs Carry Enlistment Bonuses Right Now?
On October 17, 2026, goarmy.com showed a bonus on 40 of its 148 enlisted job cards, ranging from $10,000 to $34,000, with a median of $16,000. Bonuses are one public signal of which jobs the Army is working hardest to fill right now.

| Bonus up to | Enlisted codes |
|---|---|
| $34,000 | 18B, 18C, 18D, 18E, 18F, 18X |
| $20,000 | 12D, 35M, 35P, 35W, 89D, 91M, 92R, 92Y, 94S |
| $16,000 | 12Y, 13B, 13F, 13J, 13M, 13R, 14E, 14G, 14H, 14P, 14T, 19C, 19D, 19K |
| $13,000 | 13U, 25S, 37F, 68K, 68L, 94A |
| $10,000 | 14U, 14W, 15X, 17E, 25B |
Source: goarmy.com job data, October 17, 2026.
By field, the most bonus codes sit in CMF 14 (7), CMF 13 (6) and CMF 18 (6). Officer cards are separate: 37 officer records carry bonuses from $30,000 to $600,000, so they stay out of the enlisted table.
One caution about older numbers. In 45 enlisted records, the Spanish-language bonus text gives a different amount than the bonus field, so outdated figures still live on the Army’s own site and the current English job page is the one to read.
“Up to” is not a guaranteed amount. The actual bonus depends on the contract, so the current offer is something to confirm with a recruiter.
Army Warrant Officer and Officer MOS Lists
Officer and warrant officer codes are separate lists with their own format. COOL counts 72 warrant officer MOS and 184 officer areas of concentration (AOCs).
Army Warrant Officer MOS List and Enlisted Feeders
Warrant officer codes are three digits plus a letter, such as 120A, 153A or 948B, according to DA PAM 611-21 chapter 8A, posted December 4, 2025, with a structure chart dated November 2024. On goarmy, there are only 3 warrant officer cards: 153A, 155A and 170D.
The feeder column below comes from the Army Feeder MOS List on recruiting.army.mil (USAREC), as shown on October 17, 2026, with sister-service codes dropped. That page still lists retired 29E and 14S as feeders, for example for 140A.

Three new areas of concentration appear in chapter 8A’s Table 8-2: 280 Software Operations (effective 202507), 390 Robotics (effective 202510) and 490 Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Operations (effective 202610, i.e. October 2026). None of them is in Figure 8-1 from November 2024, and the letter suffixes 280A and 390A come from USAREC, not the pamphlet.
Aviation alone has “Seven Areas of Concentration with 16 Military Occupational Specialties,” per the same chapter.
Army Officer MOS List: Branch Codes (AOC)
The branch codes below come from goarmy’s officer job cards as of October 17, 2026.

| 17B | Cyber Electromagnetic Warfare Officer |
| 17D | Cyber Capability Development Officer |
| 18A | Special Forces Officer |

The rest of goarmy’s officer cards are Army Medical Department professional codes in the 60 to 73 range: physicians, dentists, nurses, veterinarians and specialists. The 35A Military Intelligence Officer has its own guide.
Watch for code collisions. 12A is Engineer Officer on goarmy, while COOL’s enlisted list uses 12A for Engineer Senior Sergeant, so it pays to check a code’s context before assuming.
Where This Leaves You
Treat this army MOS list as a starting point for a shortlist. Any list of Army MOS codes stays stable at the code and field level, while availability, titles and bonuses move.
Practical next steps:
- Check each shortlisted code on its goarmy.com job page for the current component and requirements.
- Read up on the ASVAB test before comparing score requirements.
- Confirm current availability with a recruiter.
Veterans and parents: if a code isn’t on this page, the retired-codes table is the first place to check.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is There an Army MOS List PDF?
No single PDF in the sources used here covers every enlisted code, so there is no one army MOS list PDF to download. The Army publishes career-field guides as PDFs under DA PAM 600-25, such as the Electronic Maintenance plan from 2022 and the Recruiting and Retention plan from 2024. Warrant officers are covered by DA PAM 611-21 chapter 8A, while goarmy’s job browser is an interactive page rather than one document. The tables in this article are built to print, so a browser’s print-to-PDF gives a usable copy.
What Jobs Are on the Army Combat MOS List?
The data used here has no official combat label, so any army combat MOS list is somebody’s grouping. The goarmy.com “Ground Forces” category holds 18 enlisted codes: 11B, 11C, 11X, 13B, 13F, 13J, 13M, 13R, 13U, 18B, 18X, 19C, 19D, 19K, 19U, 37F, 38B and 89D. That’s goarmy’s own grouping as of October 17, 2026, not an official “combat arms” definition. Each card’s job page shows its current requirements.
What MOS Is an Army Ranger?
No goarmy job record had “Ranger” in its code or title as of October 17, 2026. So Ranger isn’t one of the enlisted codes in either catalog used for this list. goarmy’s special operations page says Rangers serve in more than 100 career fields in the 75th Ranger Regiment, so Ranger is an assignment open to many codes, not one MOS. A recruiter can confirm how a specific path works today.
What ASVAB Score Do You Need for Each Army MOS?
Per-job minimums change, and even goarmy’s own data disagrees with itself. In 51 of 132 enlisted records, two fields give different numbers for the same job. That’s why this list leaves scores out, and the current goarmy job page or a recruiter is the reliable check. The ASVAB test guide covers the exam itself, and the AFQT score guide covers the qualifying score.
How Many Characters Are in an Army MOS Code?
Enlisted codes have three characters: two digits and a letter, as in 68W. Warrant officer codes add one more, three digits and a letter, as in 153A. Officer branch codes look like enlisted codes, as in 11A, and appear in the officer table above. So a four-character code points to the warrant officer list, while a three-character code could be enlisted or officer.
